Why did globby & fast-glob crash this year? Why is minimatch going bonkers?

I mean, the answers to each question are in the other question, but that doesn't really tell us why. Why are both happening?

I picked minimatch for a node project recently without doing much research -- I'm in "mvp mode" -- and it seems... fine. But more recently I've started trying to figure out how different each package is, one from another, and there's nothing about minimatch that seemed obviously superior. 

Guess it's like language. Not always easy to know why one turn of phrase beats out another, but once it does, it's like wildfire.

EDIT: Here are some sites that explain glob format. I think I found a few of them interesting earlier. (It's another browser tab clean-up day.)
